A few days before returning to physical presence at international fairs, Portugal Fresh – Association for the Promotion of Fruits, Vegetables and Flowers of Portugal launched, today, Fresh Talks, a series of conversations that highlight the most exported products by Portuguese companies .
In the last decade, the value of exports of national Fruit, Vegetables and Flowers has doubled, from 780 million euros in 2010 to 1,683 million euros in 2020. The sector now exports more than half of the production value. In 2020, citrus fruits registered a significant increase in demand and, therefore, they are the main theme highlighted in the first edition of Fresh Talks.
With sales of 179 million euros in international markets, citrus fruits registered an expressive increase of 54% compared to the same period of 2019. It is in the Algarve that the vast majority of national production is concentrated (83%) and, therefore, Gonçalo Santos Andrade, president of Portugal Fresh, had a conversation with Pedro Madeira, manager of Frusoal, the largest Citrus Producers Organization in Portugal with 1500 hectares in production.
The Fresh Talks are supported by Caixa de Crédito Agrícola. The next episodes will be dedicated to tomato industry, small fruits, flowers, and pear pear.
Between October 5th and 7th, Portugal Fresh returns to Fruit Attraction, in Madrid. After an interregnum caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting between companies, producers and retailers from all over the world is now promised.
